Mason Fahim, the Hairdresser Behind Hair That Feels Like You
A considered approach to hair,
shaped by experience, instinct, and genuine care
From a young age, Mason watched his mum cut hair in her home salon, created wherever space allowed, from the garage to the laundry. What stayed with him was never just the hair itself, but everything that happened around it. The conversations, the connection, and the way people left feeling. Happier, more confident, more like themselves.
“What stood out to me wasn’t just the hair itself, but how people felt when they left,” Mason reflects. “That stayed with me.”
It’s an understanding that still defines his work today. Now with more than 17 years of experience, Mason is known for creating hair that feels effortless, refined, and genuinely suited to the individual, backed by a level of technical skill and judgement that is immediately felt in the chair.
Growing up locally and attending Oakhill College, Mason’s connection to the Hills community runs deep. Today, that connection continues beyond the salon, from long-standing client relationships to involvement in initiatives such as the World’s Greatest Shave and working with students from Cherrybrook Technology High School. It reflects the same values that shaped his path from the beginning: showing up, building trust, and taking care of people.
That foundation may have been humble, but the path that followed was anything but.
Mason trained through Pivot Point before continuing to refine his craft through advanced education, including Vidal Sassoon in London, where precision cutting is treated with both discipline and intent. He has also worked internationally, including behind the scenes at London Fashion Week, sharpening his eye for balance, structure, and individuality. His work has since been recognised within the industry, including being named a finalist at the Australian Hair Industry Awards.
“My focus is always on what will actually work for the person sitting in front of me, not just how it looks when you leave, but how it feels weeks later.”
There is a rare clarity to the way Mason sees hair. What sets him apart is not simply technical skill, but the calibre of his judgement, the ability to read shape, texture, movement, and lifestyle with remarkable precision. Whether working across cutting, colour, styling, keratin treatments, hair cryotherapy, or curly hair, his approach remains consistent: considered, personalised, and designed to last.
From the moment you walk through the salon doors, there is a sense of being seen, welcomed, and genuinely cared for. It’s there in the consultation, where Mason takes the time to understand your hair, your lifestyle, and what you’re looking for, even when you’re not quite sure how to articulate it. For many clients, this is where everything shifts.
It’s a philosophy reflected across the salon’s approach to hair. Rather than chasing trends, the focus is on creating results that are wearable, low-maintenance, and designed to grow out well. Whether that’s a precision cut that holds its shape or colour that feels soft and lived-in, the goal is always the same: hair that fits your life. For those unsure how often to maintain that balance, Mason often guides clients through what is realistic long-term, something explored further in the salon’s guide to how often you should really get a haircut.
Clients often describe this as the difference.
The feeling of being properly listened to.
Of walking out with hair that not only looks beautiful, but feels right.
It continues beyond the chair, in the product recommendations Mason makes. Each one shaped by countless hours spent researching and trialling before ever suggesting it to a client, ensuring it supports the health, integrity, and long-term wear of the hair.
The result is hair that grows out softly, maintains its shape, and fits seamlessly into daily life. This is particularly true for clients exploring colour, where the salon’s approach to low-maintenance, long-lasting colour ensures results remain balanced and natural over time.
For many clients, that consistency rebuilds something that has been lost over time. Trust.
“I came in unsure after a bad experience, and he just got it,” one client shared. “He took the time to understand what I wanted and brought it to life in a way that actually works for me.”
It’s not about dramatic change for the sake of it.
It’s about getting it right.
Some clients come for precision cuts that hold their shape. Others for colour that feels natural and low-maintenance. Others for keratin smoothing, restorative treatments, or guidance on embracing their natural texture through services like The Curly Edit. What connects them is the experience, and the sense that every decision has been made with intention.
Today, working alongside his mum, Jeanette, and wife, Marcia, Mason has built Mason James Hair into a space that reflects that philosophy. A premium hair salon in Castle Hill grounded not in trends or volume, but in care, consistency, and craftsmanship.
And while the setting may have changed from those early days, the essence of the work remains the same.
